Alfredo Binda was a prominent Italian cyclist in the 1920s and 1930s and a central figure in interwar road racing. Known for his versatility, he won five editions of the Giro d’Italia, took classics such as Milan–San Remo and the Tour of Lombardy multiple times, and claimed three world championships — achievements that place him among the greatest riders of his era.

His professional career, marked by commanding performances in stage races and by consecutive stage wins in the Giro, established him as a technical and competitive reference. The authority of his riding style and the nicknames he acquired projected an image of almost unattainable excellence, provoking strong public reactions and unusual decisions by the organizing press of the time.

After retiring from competition and in the post–World War II period, Binda served as technical director of the Italian national team. In that role he influenced successive generations and took part in developing riders such as Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali, helping secure Italian dominance in grand tours in the decades that followed.

His legacy endures in cycling history as that of a dominant competitor and mentor of champions, whose career helped shape professional practice and Italian sporting culture in the twentieth century.
