Dean Pitchford is an American lyricist, screenwriter, director and author whose career spans music for film, theater and records. He rose to international prominence by writing the lyrics for "Fame" (composer Michael Gore), a song that earned him an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Grammy nomination, and opened the door to collaborations with names such as Alan Menken, Kenny Loggins and Tom Snow. His best-known work as a screenwriter is the film Footloose (1984): in addition to writing the screenplay, Pitchford contributed to the selection and composition of several tracks for the soundtrack album, which became a commercial and cultural phenomenon with multiple hit singles and award nominations.
