Drumma Boy, stage name of Christopher James Gholson, is an American record producer and rapper whose classical musical upbringing influenced his work in hip hop. Raised in a family of musicians and educators, he began playing clarinet and piano as a child and started producing beats at 12, quickly gaining airplay on local radio and producing an album by age 14.
After moving to Atlanta in 2004, he established himself as a producer and entrepreneur by founding Drum Squad, a venture that includes a studio, a record label, and an audiovisual division. His work moves between hip hop, R&B, and reggae and is characterized by a sound that blends influences from Memphis and Atlanta. During the 2000s he became one of the most sought-after names in the scene, recognized by specialist publications.
In addition to producing for established artists, Drumma Boy has invested in educational initiatives with his family, creating a scholarship for music students. His work combines classical technique, sensitivity to African American culture, and entrepreneurial activity in the record industry.
