Eddie Arcaro was one of the most celebrated jockeys in the history of Thoroughbred racing in the United States. Known for his refined technique, sense of rhythm and skill in varying the pace during a race, he set records that still secure him a prominent place in American horseracing. He is the only jockey to win the U.S. Triple Crown twice (1941 and 1948) and holds the highest number of victories in the three American classics, with five wins in the Kentucky Derby and six each in the Preakness and the Belmont. Throughout his career he amassed titles in major races — including multiple victories in the Suburban Handicap, Wood Memorial Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup — and achieved success in international competitions such as Canada’s Queen’s Plate and the Washington, D.C. International. His competitive record earned him awards and induction into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. Off the track, Arcaro played an active role in organizing the profession, helping to establish the Jockeys' Guild. After retiring in 1962 due to health problems, he worked as a commentator and in public relations, maintaining a public presence that cemented his legacy as “The Master” of American turf.
