George Walker Bush is an American politician who served as the 43rd President of the United States (2001–2009) and previously as the 46th Governor of Texas (1995–2000). Born into a prominent political family—son of the 41st president George H. W. Bush and grandson of Senator Prescott Bush—he also had a business career in the oil industry and was a co-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. His presidency was defined by events and policies with major international and domestic impact. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Bush launched the so-called “War on Terror,” conducting military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq and enacting measures such as the USA PATRIOT Act. On the domestic front, he pursued tax cuts, education reform initiatives, and proposals related to Social Security. His second term drew intense criticism, especially over the conduct of the Iraq War and the federal response to Hurricane Katrina, contributing to electoral losses for his party in 2006. His administration also confronted the 2007–2008 financial crisis, approving emergency economic packages. After leaving the presidency he returned to Texas and published memoirs about his time in office.
