Georges Félix Burou was a French gynecologist whose clinic in Casablanca became a historical reference for feminizing genital surgery for transgender women. Trained in medicine in Algiers and specialized in gynecology and obstetrics, Burou combined detailed anatomical knowledge with surgical practice and also served as a military surgeon during World War II. At the Clinique du Parc, between 1956 and 1958 Burou developed a vaginoplasty technique using penile skin invagination with an anterior pedicle, which came to be widely adopted as the standard skin technique for vaginoplasty. He reported treating thousands of cases up to 1973 and, through the mid-1970s, performed hundreds of procedures noted for their aesthetic and functional quality. His work attracted international patients and influenced generations of surgeons; figures such as Coccinelle, April Ashley and Jan Morris are among those treated, and later colleagues credit his techniques as a foundation for subsequent practice. Although he concentrated on gender-affirming surgery, the clinic also maintained conventional obstetric and gynecological services. Burou left a significant technical legacy in gender-confirming surgery and is remembered both for his operative skill and for a rigorous regimen of patient selection and follow-up that reflected the criteria and ethical debates of his time.
