Greg Glassman is an American entrepreneur and coach best known for creating and leading the CrossFit brand, a fitness program combining gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting, high-intensity interval training and other functional methods. Co-founder of CrossFit, Inc. with Lauren Jenai in 2000, Glassman developed a model of intense, varied classes—known as WODs—that spread globally through thousands of affiliates and popularized new training practices and functional competition. His approach emphasizes constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensity, with classes structured into warm-up, technique/strength work and the main workout; this format was central to turning CrossFit into a community of gyms, events and athletes. The methodology has also attracted criticism over injury risk and reported cases of exertional rhabdomyolysis. After leading the company for two decades, Glassman stepped down when CrossFit, Inc. was sold in 2020. His legacy includes both the widespread adoption of an integrated fitness model and controversies over safety and management that accompanied the brand’s rapid expansion.
