Judith Durham was an Australian singer, songwriter and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the folk-pop group The Seekers, of which she was a member from 1963 to 1968. With a clear, classical-trained voice in piano and singing, she helped propel the group to international success; The Seekers sold more than 50 million records and reached high chart positions in the United Kingdom and the United States with hits such as "I’ll Never Find Another You" and "Georgy Girl." After leaving the group, Durham pursued a solo career, releasing albums in pop, jazz and gospel, and from 1993 onward she returned periodically to collaborate with The Seekers. Over the decades she alternated studio recordings, television specials and tours — including notable appearances such as the Newport Jazz Festival in 1978 and a commemorative concert in London in 2003, released on CD and DVD. Recognized for her contributions to music and volunteer work, she received honors in her community, including being named Victorian of the Year in 2015. Her legacy endures in the influence of her performances and in The Seekers’ pioneering role as one of the first Australian groups to achieve major international success.
