Justin Hurwitz is an American film score composer, best known for his ongoing collaboration with filmmaker Damien Chazelle. A Harvard graduate, he began working with Chazelle on student projects and has continued that collaboration on films including Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, Whiplash, La La Land, First Man, and Babylon.
His work gained critical and commercial prominence with La La Land (2016), whose score and principal song, “City of Stars,” earned him major industry awards — including Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, and recognition from the British Academy — establishing him among the most influential film composers of his generation.
In addition to films, Hurwitz has worked on television series and has served as a screenwriter on some projects, maintaining a steady presence in audiovisual productions since the start of his career.
