Luc Alphand is a French sportsman whose career became notable in two distinct disciplines. As a speed skier he rose to prominence in the 1990s: he won the overall Crystal Globe of the World Cup circuit in 1997 — a rare achievement for an athlete specialized only in downhill and super‑G — and claimed three small downhill globes (1995–1997) and one super‑G globe (1997). In total he has 12 World Cup victories, most in downhill, in addition to multiple national titles.
After ending his skiing career at the end of 1997, Alphand began a career as an auto racing driver. He progressed in the Dakar Rally until winning the event in 2006, with podium finishes in 2005 and 2007, and he competed several times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, registering a notable performance in 2006. His successful transition between high‑performance sports made him a recognized figure in French motorsport.
Beyond his competitive achievements, Alphand worked as a television sports commentator and more recently joined the presenting team of an automotive program. His legacy combines sporting excellence on snow and on dirt, remembered both for his dominance in speed events and for his career as a professional driver.
