Lucette Destouches (born Lucie Georgette Almansor) was a French dancer best known for her long relationship with the writer Louis‑Ferdinand Céline, with whom she became his companion in 1935 and was married from 1943 until his death in 1961. As a central figure in the author’s private life, she inspired characters in works such as D’un château l’autre, Nord and Rigodon, which recount the couple’s exile during and after World War II.
After the war, Lucette devoted herself to teaching classical dance, counting among her pupils figures connected to the cultural world. She managed Céline’s literary and personal estate, collaborating on the publication of posthumous texts such as Rigodon and exercising control over controversial reprints, a stance that sparked debate around the writer’s memory and his antisemitic writings.
Over the decades she maintained an active social life in Meudon, hosting figures from the arts and literature and promoting events aimed at preserving and reframing her husband’s image in the French cultural scene. She died in 2019 at age 107, leaving an ambiguous legacy as both promoter of Céline’s work and guardian of a controversial heritage.
