Infanta Luisa Fernanda of Bourbon was a member of the 19th-century Spanish royal family, duchess of Montpensier by marriage, and a central figure in the complex dynastic alliances of Europe. The youngest daughter of King Ferdinand VII and sister of Queen Isabella II, she spent years as the presumptive heir until the birth of the nephew who succeeded Isabella. Her marriage to Antoine, Duke of Montpensier, arranged from French dynastic interests, reflected the Bourbon–Orléans diplomatic ties and had political repercussions in Spain and overseas. Married at fourteen, Luisa Fernanda lived between Paris and Seville, enduring exile after the political upheavals that affected the Spanish monarchy. She was mother to ten children, of whom only some survived and continued branches of the family: notably descendants who linked her line to European royal houses and noble families, including connections with Portugal and non-reigning branches of the Orléans. Her life illustrates the role of princesses as strategic actors within 19th-century power networks, navigating dynastic marriages, exiles, and geopolitical interests. She died in Seville and was buried at the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where she rests as a representative of a noteworthy generation in the history of the Spanish monarchy.
