Mark Price is a former American basketball player and coach, best known for his career as a point guard in the NBA from 1986 to 1998. A standout at Georgia Tech, where he was a three-time All-American and named ACC Player of the Year (1984–85), he graduated with a degree in Industrial Management and had his jersey retired by the university. Professionally, Price made his name with the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming a four-time All-Star and earning four All-NBA selections. Renowned for his shooting accuracy — 90.4% on free throws and 40% on three-pointers for his career — he joined the exclusive 50–40–90 club in 1988–89. He also became known for popularizing the “split” technique on the pick-and-roll, influencing later generations. Injuries affected his final playing years, during which he had stints with Washington, Golden State, and Orlando before retiring. He represented the United States in international competition, winning gold at events including the Pan American Games and the 1994 World Championship. After retiring, he has worked as a coach and taken part in commemorative events: his number was retired by the Cavaliers and he has received recognition in state halls of fame.
