Mathieu Lindon is a French writer and journalist, known for his long career as a critic and columnist for publications such as Libération, where he has worked since the mid-1980s. The son of publisher Jérôme Lindon, he entered influential intellectual circles from a young age—most notably his friendship with Michel Foucault and his association with Hervé Guibert—which shaped his personal life and literary work.
A novelist, essayist and memoirist, Lindon made his debut in 1983 and has received major awards, including the Grand Prix littéraire des lycéens d'Île-de-France (1998) and the Prix Médicis (2011). His work addresses intimate and social themes, including sexuality, friendship and controversial episodes that provoked public debate and legal action, such as the case involving the book O Procès de Jean-Marie Le Pen.
Over the decades he has published important titles with the P.O.L and Minuit presses, alternating between fiction and critical texts. More recently his books have returned to family memories and the history of French publishing, establishing him as an influential figure in the contemporary French literary scene.
