Michael Kelland John Hutchence was an Australian musician. He became internationally known as the lead singer of the pop rock band INXS.

In 1980, the band recorded their first album, INXS. The first single was "Simple Simon", followed by the first hit "JustKeep Walking". Michael and Andrew were the creative duo behind INXS's lyrics.

During the 1980s, INXS's rise was notable worldwide. Michael gained increasing prominence due to his talent, looks and charisma onstage and off. Appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone, he was compared to Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger for his sex appeal and stage presence.

Hutchence was increasingly in the media spotlight. He several times declined magazine cover offers when they wanted him without the band. In 1987, together with INXS's music video director and personal friend Richard Lowenstein, he filmed Dogs in Space, released on DVD in 2009.

That same year, the album Kick exploded worldwide with INXS's main hits such as "Never Tear us Apart", "New Sensation" and "Need You Tonight", which was the major winner at the MTV Video Music Awards of the time. Shortly after the album that definitively launched INXS to worldwide recognition, Michael embarked on a solo musical career without leaving the band. The project, called Max Q, involved collaboration with Ollie Olsen and bore little resemblance to INXS.

In 1990, Michael once again pursued a film career, appearing in the film Frankenstein Unbound as Percy Shelley.
