Peter Seamus O’Toole was an Irish actor.
During his career he received eight Oscar nominations and held the record for the most nominations without a win.
He won four Golden Globes, a BAFTA and an Emmy, and was awarded an honorary Oscar in 2003 for the body of his work.
O'Toole began working in the theatre before making his television debut in 1954. He went on to gain his greatest recognition for portraying T. E. Lawrence in David Lean's 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, after Marlon Brando and Albert Finney declined the role.
