Phyllis McGuire was one of the members of the vocal trio The McGuire Sisters, an American popular music group that achieved major success in the 1950s and 1960s. Together with her sisters Christine and Dottie, she became known for their close harmonies and number-one hits such as “Sincerely” and “Sugartime,” as well as other million-selling records like “May You Always.” Raised in a religious environment, the sisters moved from singing in church to performing on the major stages of radio, television, and nightclubs, maintaining long professional ties to variety shows and TV specials. The trio’s aesthetic — identical costumes and synchronized choreography — made them frequent guests on high-audience programs and at official events, including performances for heads of state and the Royal Variety Performance. The group’s public career ended in 1968, although Phyllis continued to perform solo and later joined the trio’s reunions in the 1980s and in subsequent specials. Her musical legacy remains tied to the group’s vocal technique and to the influence they exerted on later female trios, as well as to their recognition in several entertainment industry halls of fame.
