Alexandrina of Prussia (Frederica Wilhelmina Louise Isabel Alexandrina) was a member of the House of Hohenzollern, known for her ties to the Prussian and Mecklenburg courts of the 19th century. A granddaughter of prominent European dynasties, she was raised under the protection of King Frederick William IV and Queen Elisabeth after her parents’ troubled divorce, which shaped her education and social standing. Considered as a marriage candidate within the British high nobility, she ultimately married Duke Frederick William of Mecklenburg‑Schwerin in 1865; the union was intended to secure dynastic and patrimonial guarantees but proved unhappy and marked by incompatibility.
The marriage produced a single daughter, Charlotte, and Alexandrina spent most of her life between Berlin and Prussian court circles, receiving presents and support from imperial relatives. After her husband’s death in 1879, she devoted herself to her daughter’s upbringing and reduced her public appearances. She died in 1906 at Schloss Marley, leaving a legacy as a courtly figure whose life illustrates the dynastic alliances, family pressures, and personal constraints experienced by European princesses of her era.
