Prince Gabriel of Belgium (Gabriel Baudouin Charles Marie de Saxe-Coburg) is a member of the Belgian royal family and currently occupies the second place in the line of succession to the throne, behind his sister, Princess Isabel, Duchess of Brabant. The son of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, he belongs to the youngest generation of the monarchy and serves as a symbol of dynastic continuity within a contemporary European context. Baptized at the Royal Castle of Ciergnon, Gabriel received names that reflect family and religious traditions: a tribute to King Baudouin, references to maternal relatives and the religious use of the name Marie in his family. In the media he is generally referred to simply as Prince Gabriel of Belgium. Alongside ceremonial duties and participation in official engagements appropriate to his age, Gabriel pursues personal interests in the arts and sports: he plays the piano and practices football, cycling, tennis, swimming, skiing and sailing, and is also involved in hockey activities.
