Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, Hermann Ernst Franz Bernhard was a German noble tied to the high European aristocracy through family and military connections. A grandson of the princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg and Leiningen, he became close to the British royal family as a nephew of Queen Victoria, a connection that reinforced his social standing in the 19th century. A career military officer, he served as a cavalry general in the Prussian army, placing him in the hierarchy of one of the leading German states of the time. On 21 April 1860 he inherited the title Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg after his brother’s abdication, taking on dynastic duties and local governance responsibilities. He married Princess Leopoldina of Baden on 24 September 1862; the union produced three children and ensured the continuation of the House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. He died on 9 March 1913 in Langenburg, leaving a legacy tied to German aristocratic tradition and the marital networks that linked European courts of the period.
