Renaud Lavillenie is a French pole vaulter known for a career defined by global titles and a period of world-record dominance. He won Olympic gold at London 2012, taking victory with 5.97 m and setting an Olympic record, and collected medals at World and European Championships through the 2010s. Indoors he became a three-time world champion (including 2012 and 2018) and in 2014 broke Sergei Bubka’s long-standing world record with a 6.16 m vault at Pole Vault Stars in Donetsk — a mark that stood as the standard until 2020. Outdoors his best recorded height is 6.05 m, achieved in 2015. Lavillenie also became a dominant figure in the Diamond League, the only athlete to win every edition of the circuit since its inception in 2010. His career combines consistency at major meets, memorable rivalries (notably with Thiago Braz at Rio 2016), and contributions to the technical and competitive profile of pole vaulting in France and internationally.
