Rory Calhoun was an American film and television actor, best known for the westerns he starred in. According to him, his entry into the world of acting happened on a day when he was waiting for the bus near MGM. Suddenly, he was invited to appear as an extra in a film by the duo O Gordo e o Magro. From there, Calhoun was quickly noticed, mainly because his 1.91 m height draws attention.
He made his debut at 20th Century Fox in an uncredited bit part in Alegria, Rapazes (Something For the Boys, 1944), starring Carmen Miranda. The first time he received screen credit, still as Frank McCown, was in the boxing drama Quando os Homens São Homens (The Great John L., 1945).
He appeared in important films, such as Meu Coração Canta (With a Song in My Heart, 1952), co-starring Susan Hayward, and Como Agarrar um Milionário (How to Marry a Millionaire, 1953), with Marilyn Monroe. His first western was Rio Sangrento (Massacre River, 1949). In 1954, he again acted alongside Marilyn Monroe, now in O Rio das Almas Perdidas (River of No Return). His nearly fifty-year career came to an end with the musical drama Coração de Cowboy (Pure Country, 1992).
