Stu Lantz is a former American professional basketball player who became a familiar voice on Los Angeles Lakers broadcasts. As a college player he shone at the University of Nebraska, becoming the first player to be named All‑Big Eight twice and leading the team in scoring and rebounds in both the 1966–67 and 1967–68 seasons; his play helped the Cornhuskers post the program’s first 20‑win season and its first NIT appearance. In recognition of his college career, his No. 22 was retired by the university and he was inducted into the Nebraska Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001. In the NBA, Lantz played from 1968 to 1976, producing one of his best seasons in 1970–71 when he averaged 20.6 points per game for the San Diego Rockets. Back injuries forced him into early retirement in 1977. After ending his playing career, he built a reputation as a broadcaster, serving since 1987 as the Lakers’ color commentator, working alongside notable play‑by‑play voices and becoming a regional fixture in game coverage. His work in radio and television has been recognized with multiple awards from the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Association and with induction into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame; in 2023 he received the Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award in honor of his long career and popularity with the audience.
