Thomas M. Disch was an American writer and poet whose work left a lasting mark particularly on New Wave science fiction. The author of acclaimed novels such as The Genocides, Camp Concentration and 334, Disch explored dark and experimental themes, helping to shift the genre toward social, philosophical and formal concerns. He received major awards, including the 1999 Hugo for non-fiction and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award, and earned multiple nominations for the Hugo and Nebula.
Beyond fiction, Disch maintained a significant career as a poet—publishing as Tom Disch—and as a cultural critic, writing about theater and opera for outlets such as The New York Times and The Nation.
