V. B. Price is an American poet, journalist, and editor whose work and public engagement are closely tied to environmental and social issues in New Mexico. The author of dozens of books of poetry — including selected collections and titles such as Chaco Body — Price has also published influential essays, notably The Orphaned Land, in which he examines half a century of environmental impacts related to military testing, uranium mining, and unsustainable development in the state. Over more than five decades he has held significant roles in regional journalism: magazine editor, architecture critic, weekly columnist, and founder of publications such as the Century Magazine and, more recently, cofounder of the New Mexico Mercury. His column on politics and the environment established him as a critical voice on resource management and public accountability. A professor at the University of New Mexico and editor of university poetry series, Price has also worked as a mentor for local authors, bringing the work of hundreds of New Mexico writers to public attention. Academic honors and awards for journalism and community service attest to his cultural influence and his legacy in environmental and literary advocacy for the region.
