Ann Miller — born Johnnie Lucille Collier — was an actress, singer and one of the most celebrated dancers of American cinema’s Golden Age. Revealed at a young age as a tap-dancing prodigy, she built a career at studios such as RKO, Columbia and MGM, distinguishing herself as a high-profile supporting player in classic musicals like Easter Parade (1948), On the Town (1949) and Kiss Me Kate (1953). Her speed and technique in tap made her an instantly recognizable figure in the genre. Over the decades she moved between film, theatre and television: she made her Broadway debut in 1939, appeared in major studio productions, and in the 1970s and 1980s mounted a theatrical comeback — including Sugar Babies, which earned her a Tony nomination, and regional awards for performances in Chicago. She also published memoirs and a book about psychic experiences. A symbol of studio-era glamour — known for voluminous hair, dramatic makeup and long legs — Miller received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Her legacy lies in preserving the American musical tradition and in being remembered as one of the fastest, most charismatic dancers of her time.
