Anne Brochet is a French actress, director, and writer known for her work in both film and theatre. Trained in dramatic arts at the Cours Florent and the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris, she drew early attention with César nominations—being singled out as Most Promising Actress for Masques (1988)—and gained international recognition playing Roxane in Cyrano de Bergerac, a role that strengthened her career and earned her the Romy Schneider Prize in 1991.
In cinema, she won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1992 for her portrayal of Madeleine in Tous les Matins du Monde, a performance that reinforced her standing within the French auteur scene. Alongside her film work, she has maintained an extensive theatre career, performing both classical and contemporary plays—from Corneille and Shakespeare to modern authors—and appearing in productions at major theatres and festivals, including Avignon.
From the early 2000s she expanded her output as a writer, publishing novels and collections with Éditions du Seuil and other publishers. Her multifaceted career—spanning acting, directing, and literature—marks a lasting presence in French cultural life, distinguished by awards, leading roles, and ongoing contributions to theatre and literature.
