Antonin Gregory Scalia was an American jurist who served on the United States Supreme Court as an associate justice from September 1986 until his death in 2016. Appointed by President Ronald Reagan, he became one of the Court’s most influential voices, known for his defense of originalism and textualism in constitutional and statutory interpretation. That legal stance shaped major decisions on individual rights, executive power, and federal limits. A graduate of Georgetown and Harvard, Scalia had a long academic and public career: he taught at universities such as Virginia and Chicago, held positions in the Department of Justice and the federal government, and served on the D.C.
