Ash Barty (Ashleigh Jacinta Barty) is a former Australian professional tennis player who reached world No. 1 in singles on the WTA Tour, holding that position for 121 weeks over the course of her career. Known for an all-court game and a wide variety of shots, she excelled despite a relatively short stature, with an effective serve that kept her among the leaders in aces and service points won.

Barty won 12 singles titles on the WTA Tour, including three Grand Slam tournaments: Roland Garros (2019), Wimbledon (2021) and the Australian Open (2022), as well as the WTA Finals in 2019. She also enjoyed success in doubles, claiming 12 titles and a Grand Slam doubles title at the 2018 US Open alongside CoCo Vandeweghe.

She took a break from tennis in 2014 to play professional cricket in the Women’s Big Bash League, returned to tennis in 2016 and quickly rose to the top of the tour. She led Australia to the Fed Cup final in 2019 and won a mixed doubles bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics (2021). In March 2022 she announced her retirement while still world No. 1.

Beyond her on-court achievements, Barty serves as National Ambassador for Indigenous Tennis in Australia and is recognized for her versatility on court and her inspirational impact on young athletes.
