Caroline Elisabeth Paulus, known by the stage name Bambou, is a Franco-Eurasian actress, singer and model. She became publicly known primarily for her romantic relationship with composer Serge Gainsbourg beginning in 1981, a relationship that brought her prominence in the French cultural scene of the 1980s. She is the mother of Lucien (Lulu), born in 1986; his birth inspired compositions by Gainsbourg in which Bambou contributed vocals.
She began her film career in 1979, appearing in L'enfant secret and in television productions and short films over the following decades, including L'homme sandwich (1979), La fin de la nuit (1997), 74 km avec elle (2000) and Helsinki (2013). In music she released singles and the album Made in China (1989), and recorded the song "Lulu" in collaboration with Gainsbourg.
Cultural heritage and the media have preserved her image both through her association with one of the most controversial and influential figures in French music and through her multifaceted artistic work. She also appears in works about Gainsbourg's life and was portrayed in the biographical film about the composer.
