Barbara Bain, born Mildred M. Fogel, is an American actress and former model whose career was best known for television work in the 1960s and 1970s. Trained in sociology, she moved into modern dance and then acting, studying at various schools and at the Actors Studio, which grounded her professional work on stage and screen. She became widely known for the role of Cinnamon Carter on the series Mission: Impossible (1966–1969), a performance that earned her three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and a Golden Globe nomination. Her visibility on the series established her presence in American television culture. Later she appeared in the science-fiction series Space: 1999 as Dr. Helena Russell and maintained a steady presence in films and guest appearances on television series in subsequent decades. Married for many years to fellow actor Martin Landau, Bain is also the mother of two daughters, including actress Juliet Landau. In addition to her performing career, she has been involved in social causes in more recent decades, notably campaigns promoting literacy. Her legacy is defined by widely seen television roles and awards that attest to her professional recognition.
