Benjamin Disraeli was a British Conservative statesman, writer and aristocrat who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on two occasions in the 19th century. A central figure in shaping the modern Conservative Party, he defined policies that aligned the party with the defense of the British Empire and a broader national narrative.

A Member of Parliament from 1837, he rose to prominence as leader of the House of Commons and as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the governments of the Earl of Derby, forging a long‑standing political rivalry with William Ewart Gladstone, leader of the Liberals. His close relationship with Queen Victoria earned him the title Earl of Beaconsfield in 1876.

On the international stage, Disraeli is remembered for an assertive foreign policy: he negotiated the purchase of shares in the Suez Canal and took a leading role at the Congress of Berlin (1878) to curb Russian influence in the Balkans, a success that reinforced his reputation as a European statesman.

Alongside his political career, he maintained a prolific literary output, authoring novels and essays that reflected his political and social views over several decades.
