Bobby Vee, stage name of Robert Thomas Velline, was an American singer and guitarist who became a teen idol in the early 1960s. He emerged after the 1959 crash that killed Buddy Holly, when Vee and his local band filled the canceled performance — an event that launched his career. During the decade he scored hits in the era’s commercial pop style, placing 38 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving international successes such as "Take Good Care of My Baby", "Rubber Ball" and "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes".

His repertoire was linked to the Brill Building pop sound; he worked with producers and arrangers who shaped his recordings and earned six gold singles. Beyond his records, he appeared in musical films and in early Scopitone productions that anticipated elements of the music video.

He maintained professional and personal ties with musicians of the next generation — Bob Dylan recalled Vee with admiration — and, together with his children, took part in Minnesota’s music scene, running Rockhouse Productions and organizing local festivals. Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he retired from performing in 2011; his last collective recording was released posthumously as The Adobe Sessions.
