Candace Nicole Parker is a former American professional basketball player, widely regarded as one of the greatest in WNBA history. Selected first overall in the 2008 draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, she built a distinguished 15-season career in the league, winning championships with the Sparks, Chicago Sky, and Las Vegas Aces. She was a two-time WNBA MVP (2008, 2013), the 2008 Rookie of the Year, and the 2016 Finals MVP. In college basketball, Parker starred for the Tennessee Lady Vols, leading the team to back-to-back national championships (2007, 2008) and being named the Final Four’s most outstanding player twice. Known for her versatility—playing both forward and center—she also became a prominent figure in raising the visibility and popularity of women’s basketball, achieving historic milestones such as registering the first recorded blocks by a woman in NCAA games. Beyond her club and collegiate achievements, Parker was a member of U.S. national teams that won Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012). After retiring in 2024, she worked as an executive in women’s basketball and served as a sports commentator for TNT broadcasts, maintaining an active role in the development and promotion of the sport.
