Cara Mund is an American lawyer and public figure who rose to national prominence by winning the Miss America 2018 pageant, becoming the first representative from North Dakota to hold the title. Before that she distinguished herself in youth and state competitions and, since her teenage years, organized an annual charity fashion show benefiting the Make‑A‑Wish Foundation, linking her public image to social causes. Graduating with honors from Brown University and earning a law degree from Harvard Law School in 2022, Mund served as a teaching fellow and contributed to academic publications and moot court activities. In 2022 she was admitted to the North Dakota bar and now practices at the firm Quinn Emanuel, working on complex commercial litigation, white‑collar criminal defense, bankruptcy and labor matters. In the public arena, Mund mounted a brief independent campaign for Congress in 2022 and ran in the Republican primary in 2024, campaigns noted for her positions on reproductive rights and her criticism of partisan extremism. Her public profile also includes criticism of the Miss America leadership during her reign and work as an ambassador for charitable organizations.
