Charles M. Schulz was an American cartoonist celebrated for creating the Peanuts series and iconic characters such as Charlie Brown and the beagle Snoopy. His work, begun in 1950, ran in daily publication for more than five decades, becoming a landmark of American pop culture and the press by linking simple humor to reflections on loneliness, friendship, and everyday frustrations. Shaped by his experience as an illustrator and by his service in World War II, Schulz turned memories and personal relationships into recognizable characters and situations; many Peanuts figures originated from real people in his life, and episodes from his own biography appear in the strips. His economical line and his ability to condense complex emotions into brief panels influenced generations of cartoonists. Over the course of his career he received public recognition, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (1996). The last strip signed by Schulz was published shortly after his retirement in 1999, and his editorial farewell appeared posthumously in 2000. Schulz’s legacy remains alive in the continued circulation of Peanuts and the enduring presence of his characters in global culture.
