Chris Tarrant is an English broadcaster whose career has spanned radio, television and entertainment since the 1970s. He began as a regional news presenter and rose to national prominence co-presenting the irreverent children’s show Tiswas (1974–1981), a format that brought him attention for an energetic, comic persona. In the 1980s he established himself in radio with two decades hosting Capital Breakfast, during which he increased the station’s audience in London. His name became international as presenter of the quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (1998–2014), a global hit whose British edition was defined by his voice, catchphrases and long tenure — 592 episodes across 30 series. He also produced and presented other variety shows, travel documentaries and entertainment titles for television. Also known for philanthropic work, he was appointed an OBE in 2004. Tarrant’s legacy lies in his influence on entertainment formats and in shaping presenting styles that marked British television and radio across several decades.
