Christopher Cross (born Christopher Charles Geppert) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist who first reached the mainstream with his 1979 self-titled album. The record earned Cross five Grammy Awards, including the four major categories (Record, Album and Song of the Year, and Best New Artist), an unprecedented achievement for decades. It produced hits such as "Ride Like the Wind" and the urban ballad "Sailing," which reached number one on the Billboard chart.

In addition to his solo success, Cross contributed to soundtracks and collaborations: he co-wrote and performed "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," the title song from the film Arthur, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. His work in the early 1980s established him as a prominent name in the soft rock/adult contemporary scene of that period.

From the mid-1980s his commercial visibility declined as the music market changed, but he has maintained an active career with touring and independent releases in subsequent decades. His artistic legacy remains associated with the quality of his songwriting, his skill as a guitarist and the cultural impact of several songs that defined the early 1980s.
