Christian Valdemar Henri John, known as Christian, Crown Prince of Denmark, is a member of the House of Glücksburg and the current heir apparent to the Danish throne. The eldest son of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, he officially assumed the position of crown prince on 14 January 2024 following the abdication of Queen Margrethe II, and he is first in the line of succession. Since then he has carried out representative duties and has served as regent during official travels of the royal family.
During his childhood and adolescence, Christian took part in public events and official ceremonies, including his baptism, Danish national celebrations and visits to the autonomous territories such as Greenland and the Faroe Islands. He was also the most recent member of the royal family to attend daycare and public school, in addition to periods of education abroad. His upbringing has been accompanied by the institutional protocols of the monarchy.
The bestowal of his titles follows dynastic tradition: he has borne the style of prince from birth and received the title Count of Monpezat in 2008. As heir, his position and activities reinforce the institutional continuity of the Danish crown and signify the generational transition within the monarchy.
