Daemon Francis appears in the record as one of the victims of serial killer Herbert Mullin, killed at age four during a series of murders in California in early 1973. The episode is part of a set of crimes in which Mullin, driven by paranoid delusions and beliefs about sacrifices needed to prevent earthquakes, attacked several families and passersby in rural and suburban areas.
Daemon’s case is linked to a domestic attack in which Mullin killed members of a family — including children — after deciding they were “offering themselves” as sacrifices. These homicides helped build the investigation that led to Mullin’s arrest and revealed his pattern of violence, which had included earlier incidents involving strangers, hitchhikers and even a priest.
