Dave Davies (David Russell Gordon Davies) is a British musician, vocalist and founding guitarist of the rock band The Kinks, formed in 1963. Recognized for his pioneering use of the power chord on “You Really Got Me” (1964), he had a significant influence on the development of rock sound and the heavy guitar riff in subsequent decades. Although his brother Ray Davies was the group's principal songwriter and its best-known member, Dave contributed his own songs that became hits, such as “Death of a Clown”, “Susannah's Still Alive” and “Living on a Thin Line”. The Kinks established themselves as a quartet with Mick Avory on drums and became a landmark of English rock, culminating in induction into the British Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Besides his work with the band, Dave pursued a solo career and took part in soundtracks. He suffered a stroke in 2004, from which he partially recovered, returning to recording and releasing material such as Fractured Mindz (2007). Music critics have listed him among the best guitarists in publications such as Rolling Stone, reflecting his technical legacy and historical impact on rock.
