Delores Taylor was an American actress, screenwriter and producer, best known for her role in the film series centered on the character Billy Jack during the 1960s and 1970s. In partnership with her husband Tom Laughlin, she helped develop the character that debuted in The Born Losers (1967) and rose to prominence in Billy Jack (1971), The Trial of Billy Jack (1974) and Billy Jack Goes to Washington (1976), films in which Taylor shared the leading role.
In addition to acting, she worked on production: she was co-producer of The Born Losers and of the western The Master Gunfighter (1975). Her collaboration with Laughlin established an independent body of work that blended the social and cultural issues of the era, reaching a wide audience and earning both popular and critical recognition.
In 1972 she was nominated for a Golden Globe in the New Star of the Year – Actress category. Her legacy is linked to filmmaking that challenged the traditional studio system and to the representation of social issues in the popular narratives of the period.
