Didier Decoin is a French writer and screenwriter whose work has moved between journalism, literature and film/television. The son of filmmaker Henri Decoin, he began his career in the press — at France-Soir, Le Figaro and radio Europe 1 — before establishing himself as an author of novels and screen adaptations. He received the Prix Goncourt in 1977 for John l'Enfer, a milestone in his literary reputation.
Over the decades he has published a wide range of works — from historical novels to religious reflection — including award-winning titles such as Abraham de Brooklyn and Elisabeth ou Dieu seul le sait. His output also includes children's literature and documentary and photographic volumes, showing an interest in religious and biographical themes, notably the book about his father, Henri ou Henry: le roman de mon père.
Alongside his work as a novelist, Decoin built a career as a screenwriter and adapter for film and television, participating in notable projects such as adaptations of Les Misérables and The Count of Monte Cristo, and collaborating with various filmmakers on feature-film scripts. In 1995 he became secretary of the Académie Goncourt, a position that underscores his influence on the French literary scene.
His legacy combines recognized literary production and contributions to audiovisual drama, reflecting a career that engages with French cultural tradition and contemporary narrative forms.
