American actress Dorothy Fay became known chiefly for western films of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Partly trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and with studies at institutions such as the University of Southern California, she began her career in B‑western productions, appearing alongside names like Buck Jones, William Elliott and George Houston. In the following years she made several pictures for studios such as Monogram and Columbia, playing heroines in serials and popular feature films of the era — including The Green Archer and White Eagle — and appeared in four films with her husband, singer and actor Tex Ritter. She also had small roles in larger studio productions, with bit parts in MGM films. Married to Ritter, she participated intermittently in show business after their marriage and ultimately left the screen in the early 1940s. In subsequent decades she maintained ties to the country‑music community in Nashville, serving at times as a receptionist at the Grand Ole Opry and attending conventions and events dedicated to western film. Her public legacy is tied to the cycle of low‑budget westerns of the 1930s–40s and to her presence among figures in country entertainment; her career is also marked by family connections to the next generation of performers.
