Ranieri Maria Gaetano di Borbone-Due Sicilie was a prince of the House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, known for claiming the headship of the family after the death of his elder brother, Ferdinando Pio, in 1960. Born into European aristocracy, he served for a period in the Spanish Army and played an active role in the dynastic affairs of the 20th century. He married Countess Maria Carolina Zamoyska, with whom he had two children, including Ferdinando Maria, to whom he later transmitted his dynastic claims.
His claim opposed the primogeniture line represented by Infante Alfonso Maria and his descendants, producing a long family split that lasted for decades. The controversy involved historical documents debated between the branches and prompted statements from Spanish and Italian institutions and authorities concerning the succession and associated titles, such as the Grand Magistery of the Royal Order of Saint George of the Constantinian Order.
In 1966 Ranieri renounced his claims in favor of his son Ferdinando Maria. The dynastic dispute was only partly diminished by a family reconciliation agreement in 2014, whose effectiveness and durability were later limited by subsequent acts and challenges within the family.
