Edvard Ingjald Moser is a Norwegian psychologist and neuroscientist recognized for fundamental contributions to understanding the brain’s spatial navigation system. As a researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), he led the discovery of the so‑called grid cells in the medial entorhinal cortex—neurons that form an internal coordinate system; this work, together with May‑Britt Moser and John O’Keefe, earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2014.

Over his career, Moser founded and headed a broad research environment, including centers of excellence funded by national and international agencies, later developed into the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience. His academic background combines training in psychology and neurophysiology with postdoctoral work in centers in the United Kingdom and Scotland, and he established a research school investigating memory, spatial representation, and the temporal mechanisms of experience.

Moser has received numerous international awards and honors and is a member of several scientific academies. His scientific legacy includes not only experimental discoveries—such as identifying neural networks that encode time and space—but also training generations of researchers and building institutional research platforms in neuroscience in Norway.
