Elisabeth of Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach was a princess by birth and, through marriage, became Margravine of Baden in the early 16th century. A daughter of Margrave Frederick “the Elder” of Brandenburg-Ansbach and Sophia of Poland, she belonged to a dynastic network that connected the houses of Hohenzollern and Jagiellon, placing her at the center of the marital and alliance strategies of the German and Central European nobility of the time. On 29 September 1510 she married Ernest, Margrave of Baden-Durlach, a union that reinforced territorial and dynastic ties between the two houses. The marriage produced several children, among them Albert and Bernhard—the latter a future Margrave of Baden-Durlach—and daughters who married into other important noble families, extending the family’s influence. Elisabeth lived during a period of fragmentation and reconfiguration of princely territories: the division of the Margraviate of Baden around 1515 reflects the succession dynamics that shaped regional politics for centuries. She died in 1518 and was buried in the Stiftskirche in Stuttgart, leaving a legacy chiefly in the dynastic alliances and descendants she helped establish.
