Gabriela Sabatini is a former Argentine tennis player regarded as one of the leading competitors of the late 20th century. Active on the professional tour in the 1980s and 1990s, she reached No. 3 in the world rankings in both singles and doubles and won 41 WTA titles over the course of her career.
In singles she won the 1990 US Open and claimed the WTA Finals titles in 1988 and 1994; she was also runner-up at Wimbledon (1991) and the US Open (1988), and won the silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In doubles she notably won Wimbledon in 1988 alongside Steffi Graf and reached three finals at the French Open.
Sabatini was known for her combination of technique and net play, recording many victories over top-ranked players — among Open Era players who never reached No. 1 herself, she has defeated opponents holding the world No. 1 ranking more times than any other. Her career was honored with induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2006, and she has been ranked among the best players of the period by the tennis press.
