Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos, better known as Gal Costa, is a Brazilian singer.
In 1959 she heard the singer João Gilberto singing Chega de saudade on the radio for the first time; João also exerted a great influence on her career. She worked as a sales clerk at the main record store in Salvador at the time, Roni Discos.
In 1963 she was introduced to Caetano Veloso by Dedé Gadelha, beginning a great friendship and deep mutual admiration that endures to this day.
