Gayle Cook was an American executive and philanthropist best known for cofounding, in 1963, the Cook Group — a medical equipment manufacturer established with her husband William Cook. She graduated in fine arts from Indiana University (1956) and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She served on the company’s board for decades, helping develop one of the largest privately held firms in the medical sector.
Beyond her business career, she was noted for historic preservation: she restored several historic buildings in Indiana, including recognized homes and hotels, and coauthored two books on historic conservation. She took part in organizations such as the Indiana Historical Society and The Nature Conservancy, and helped found the Monroe County Historical Society Museum.
Her philanthropy included gifts to Indiana University, where she served on the University Foundation Board of Trustees and received honors such as the Gertrude Rich Award (1983) and an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (1993). She was married to William Cook and was the mother of Carl Cook. She died on August 17, 2025, at the age of 91.
